Mariposa Ice Cream was founded with the spirit of joy and gratitude. We are driven to provide our guests an exceptional experience with a combination of our delicious handcrafted ice cream and our genuine love to serve.

Our family settled in Oceanside in 1906. Planting our roots on San Diego St. and then spreading throughout the county. Cousin Dick, a third generation dairy farmer, started our company in Mariposa California and in 2000 opened Mariposa Ice Cream in San Diego, California. Here our ice cream is made fresh every week using Grandpa Pete’s recipes. Following lessons learned on the dairy farm and with a love for what we do, we hand-mix natural, locally sourced ingredients and high quality diary. We produce our ice cream in small 5 gallon batches. By producing small batches we’re able to focus more on flavor and quality. Our ice cream has one-third the sugar compared to most store bought ice cream and has half the air! It does not contain eggs nor gluten.  As a result a more flavorful and creamy ice cream is created.

In 2010 Mariposa Ice Cream returned to the family roots; Oceanside. We are located on The Strand at the Oceanside Pier. You’ll also find us every week at the Oceanside Farmers Market, Oceanside Sunset Market and many events throughout the county.

Our parlor has been featured on local television and San Diego Magazine voted us San Diego’s Best Ice Cream. The New York Times, in an article titled 36 hours in San Diego, named Mariposa Ice Cream a “Must Have”.

We are proud to have become a destination for visitors and locals alike. We aim to provide an exceptionally delicious,  family valued treat elevating the happiness of ALL.
